Individuals

Shepard Meadows relies on our many volunteers to be successful! Whether you have one hour or several hours per week, we have a job for you. We believe that our volunteers benefit from spending time at our farm, helping directly in program with participants, with facilities or barn chores. Our beautiful and peaceful farm is a respite for all.

Opportunities:
-
Barn chores (cleaning stalls & paddocks, waters, sweeping, etc.)
-
General maintenance & repairs
-
Horse leading (must have horse experience)
-
Unmounted horsemanship (assisting staff member with group programs)
-
Sidewalking riders

We are currently most in need of volunteers available Mondays-Thursdays to assist with barn chores either in the mornings (8:00-10:30) or evenings (4:00-5:00), farm maintenance, and horse leaders available after school hours. *Please note, we do not have need for program volunteers on Fridays and Sundays, as there are no riding lessons those days.

To begin volunteering with us, please complete and submit your volunteer application via email or mail to our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@shepardmeadows.org.
Note: The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age. If an individual qualifies to be a participant in our therapeutic program, they are usually ineligible to volunteer.

We welcome volunteer groups from outside organizations. There is always much work to do at the farm! From United Way Day of Caring, to Torrington Savings Bank, Gilbane, or GE – we appreciate the help to make major improvements to our property.
